The Neonatal Transport service forms part of the Specialist Transport and Retrieval Service for Scotland – ScotSTAR. ScotSTAR incorporates the Scottish Neonatal Transport Service, the Scottish Paediatric Retrieval Service, the Emergency Medical Retrieval Service (EMRS) and the Air Ambulance Service. ScotSTAR is managed by the Scottish Ambulance Service and undertakes approximately 3000 transfers per year. The neonatal service has incorporated technological advances in neonatal intensive care and has capability for the use of HFVO, NCPAP, High Flow and inhaled nitric oxide, phototherapy and servo-controlled systemic hypothermia during transfers.
The Neonatal Team are looking to expand the Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (ANNP) workforce and looking for highly motivated individuals to join them. The post will be a band 8B ANNP and the post holder will provide advanced clinical care to neonates and their families and will be expected to make management decisions about patient care with the support of the team. Futhermore, the post holder will be expected to have managerial responisibilty including the supervision of band 8A ANNP’s.
These vacancies will offer qualified ANNP’s educated to Master’s level, the opportunity develop the ANNP role within the neonatal transport service. The applicant should have extensive neonatal intensive care expertise working in a level 3 unit and extensive transport experience.
The majority of transfers are done using dedicated road ambulances with a small number being done by fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft, provided by the Air Ambulance Service. The team is composed of experienced transport Nurses, ANNP’S, Nurse Consultants, Transport fellows, and Consultant Neonatologists.
The post will be within in the west ScotSTAR team based at Glasgow Airport.
