Details of the Post
The post will be for 12 months (August 2023 to July 2024) and will be based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. This post is aimed at doctors who have completed 2-3 years of training and are considering a career in Cardiology.
Cardiology
This role would be suitable for a trainee who has completed FY2 and is considering a career in cardiology, or for a trainee who has completed CMT/IMT and is considering applying for a cardiology training number, a research fellowship or acute medicine. The post will provide a solid grounding in general cardiology with a focus on core competencies (i.e. management of coronary artery disease, heart failure, and arrhythmia), and there is opportunity to begin training in echocardiography.
There is also opportunity for sub-specialty exposure i.e. imaging (advanced echo, CTCA, CMR), pacing, and sub-specialty out-patient work (heart failure clinic, inherited cardiac conditions clinic. There will be the opportunity to contribute to existing clinical audit/QIP projects and/or research projects.
Previous clinical fellows have successfully applied to IMT and Cardiology SpR training posts, and have contributed to work presented at national and international meetings.
The successful applicant will work on both the general Cardiology wards and Coronary Care Unit, taking part ward rounds and the routine care of Cardiology in-patients. In addition, there will be the opportunity to attend Cardiology out-patient clinics and to review in-patient referrals with the on-call consultant and SpR. The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to undergraduate teaching, and attend departmental educational meetings.
General Medicine
The successful applicant will contribute to the Medical mid-tier daytime and on-call rota (50% rota banding).
