Three fixed term posts up to the 31st March 2024.
WoSSVC operates an out of hours 24/7 operational service and the post holder will have a contractual requirement to participate in the rota for the out of hours’ service. This involves working 37.5 hours over 7 days, with hours worked at evenings, weekends and public holidays, Monday to Sunday as part of the out of hours rota.
Applications are invited from enthusiastic and motivated candidates for the Fixed Term post of Health Care Clinical Support Worker (Higher Level) within SARS CoV-2 virus Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) service based in the West of Scotland Specialist Virology Centre (WoSSVC) in Glasgow.
Duties of the post include:
• To assist in the processing of specimens and carry out work in support of the
technical, scientific and clinical staff of the WoSSVC
• Ensure patient information details (PID) and test information are entered
correctly onto the lab information system (Telepath) or other manual systems
• Collects and prepares materials and clinical specimens for analysis and safe
disposal of clinical waste
• Deals with reception and telephone queries from staff from other departments
and external agencies
• Performs specific laboratory tests including the whole genome
sequencing (WGS) section of the WoSSVC, with senior staff available
for reference
• Assists in the training of new or less experienced staff
Applicants must have 3 Highers at Grade C or above, which should include either Chemistry or Biology together with Maths, or SVQ3 in relevant science subject, or completion of modern apprenticeship in life sciences, or completion of equivalent accredited education / learning.
