Pre-Employment Training Programme

Healthcare Support Worker Pre-employment Training Programme

QEUH/RAH/IRH Hospitals

​​​​​​​Healthcare Support Workers are valued members of our Nursing Family who work in our hospital and community based teams delivering hands on care and support to our patients.

We are working with the Prince’s Trust to enrol people aged 16 to 30 in our Training Programme for Hospital Healthcare Support Workers.

By the end of the programme trainees will have had the benefit of NHS training in key areas, have obtained Scottish Moving and Handling Passport and completed a 3 week ward based placement to put their training into practice and test out if the role of a Healthcare Support worker is for them.

Successful completion of this programme guarantees that you will be interviewed for suitable permanent Band 2 Healthcare Support Worker vacancies across our NHS GGC Board Area.

This programme will start on Monday 5th June for a period of 5 Weeks.  


Placements for this programme will be hosted in:


  • Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (Glasgow South)
  • Royal Alexandra Hospital (Paisley)
  • Inverclyde Royal Hospital (Greenock). 


Please note that placements will hosted in Adult In Patient services only.

Who can apply?

Candidates who are interested in applying for this programme must be aged between 16 and 30 years and not in employment or education.

  • Our Programme is a Sector based Work Academy Supported by the DWP (Job Centre) and our Employability Partner the Prince’s Trust 
  • This is an unpaid training programme however trainees registered with the DWP  or who are eligible to register with one of our Employability Partner the Prince’s Trust will receive support for travel and other programme expenses for the duration of the programme.
  • DWP Clients will not be required to attend their local Job Centre during the programme and will continue to receive their benefits.
