Consultant in Forensic Psychiatry - The State Hospital
Salary - £91,474 - £121,548 per annum (pro rata) with additional High Secure RMO allowance amounting to 15% of point 5 of the consultant salary scale (£15261.15 High Secure RMO Allowance per annum (pro rata))
Hours Per Week – 10 PAs*
Contract Duration – Permanent
Successful applicants maybe eligible for a relocation allowance depending upon whether they meet the necessary criteria set out within the Consultant Grade Terms and Conditions of Service, 2007.
Post Details – A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the fully staffed Consultant workforce as a Consultant in Forensic Psychiatry/ Consultant Psychiatrist with a special interest in Forensic Psychiatry at The State Hospital. The post is based at The State Hospital, Carstairs, South Lanarkshire. The hospital is situated in a rural location midway between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
As Responsible Medical Officer, you will provide clinical leadership for multi-disciplinary teams providing care and treatment for up to 20 patients. You will be working alongside, and supported by, an experienced group of Consultant Colleagues. There are opportunities to consider the possibility of sessional input with partner organisations with whom The State Hospital holds Service Level Agreements (SLA). There are ample opportunities to develop research and teaching interests and the Hospital has well developed links with a range of teaching and research institutions which support the well established research and clinical effectiveness ethos.
The State Hospital provides psychiatric care in a high secure environment for Scotland and Northern Ireland. It is a national service recognised as committed to providing the highest quality treatment and care for patients while respecting their dignity and individuality. Patient care is provided within a new build hospital completed in 2011. The hospital is an integral part of the Forensic Network which allows the planning of services on a national basis and is keen to develop its links with the wider environment and service providers. The hospital has recently embarked on changing its clinical model to better suit the needs of patients and staff, this is an ideal time to join the hospital to support this change. There is flexibility over clinical sessions for external clinical work. Whilst, the post is advertised as a full-time position, we are open to discussing less than full time.
