2 POSTS OF SUBSTANTIVE CONSULTANT CELLULAR PATHOLGIST


Applications are invited for a dynamic Consultant Cellular Pathologist to join the current 24 Consultant team at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, a University affiliated Teaching Hospital. The post will appeal to a broad range of subspecialty interests, with departmental priorities in Breast, Bone/Soft Tissue, Urological, Lymphorecticular, General, Dermatological Pathology, Non-Cervical Cytology and Post Mortems. The workload is reported by subspecialist teams and distributed according to RCPath points guidance. The appointee will be expected to report in at least three of the above disciplines. 


The post will offer opportunities for Research, Teaching, Hospital and Procurator Fiscal Autopsies, and participation in Private Practice.


The appointee will have use of an office with Microscope and IT facilities. Voice Recognition Reporting and Digital Whole Slide Imaging are available. It is expected that the University of Aberdeen will accord the status of Honorary Clinical Lecturer.


The Pathology Department handles approximately 36,000 surgical and 3,700 diagnostic cytology specimens, and has full UKAS ISO 15189.2012 accreditation. The Molecular Genetics laboratory is close by on-site and the laboratory has an established, integrated Biorepository which supports and enhances opportunities for research. BMS dissection is established and BMS Associate Reporting Practitioners are in training. The Laboratory is currently undergoing refurbishment under a Managed Service Contract.


Aberdeen, the 'Granite City' in the North-East coast of Scotland, boasts some excellent schools and leisure facilities. There are ample opportunities for outdoor leisure and sporting activities.


The appointee is required to be a team player, an enthusiastic trainer and to fulfil the duties described in the job description. The post is offered on a whole time equivalent basis, including 2 SPAs, although there may be opportunity for up to 2 EPAs by mutual agreement. Candidates who wish to work less than full-time will also be considered.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview. 

Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).    

 

Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made.  Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.
