Registered Clinical Scientist   /  MR Physics / Non Ionising Radiation Protection Post

Annex 21 Arrangements will be considered :-
(i)    up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate;
(ii)    more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate;

 Would you like to be part of our small team which provides the radiation protection, diagnostic radiology and MRI physics service to the beautiful Highlands and Islands of Scotland?
This permanent post is suitable for a clinical scientist or a medical physicist trainee close to obtaining HCPC registration.  The post holder will work closely with the non-ionising radiation / MR clinical scientist and will provide scientific support to MRI. As part of the small RP team the potholder will be expected to contribute to other areas of the radiation protection and diagnostic radiology physics service including non-ionising radiation.
Applicants for this post must have a relevant scientific degree (1st or 2nd class), hold a relevant higher degree and have experience in providing clinical MRI physics support. Additional experience in non-ionising and ionising radiation protection and diagnostic radiology physics is beneficial.
This is a new post to support the increasing need for MR Physics service provision within NHS Highland and the surrounding health boards. Currently the service has two inhouse MRI scanners and a semi-permanent MRI van onsite. The service is hoping to increase in coming years with current investment towards an MR for radiotherapy simulator and support for remote health boards whom are looking to establish a new clinical MR service.
The current MR service has significant input to MRI safety with an increasing provision to implant scanning such as complex active devices (eg MR Unlabelled pacemakers).  MR Physics also has ongoing support to advanced MRI techniques such as cardiac MRI and advanced oncology MRI (e.g. whole-body diffusion imaging) .
The post holder would support this increasing MR physics service provision but also provide input to the larger radiation protection service such as supporting the implementation of the Control of Electromagnetic Fields Regulations at Work (CEMFAW).
The successful candidate will ideally be a state registered Clinical Scientist who has followed specialist training programme in MRI. Candidates close to registration may be considered for the post and would be supported in completing their training (initial appointment at band 6 may be required).
