Band 8B

Part-Time Clinical Psychologist post

Staff Support, 3 days a week, fixed term post for 12 months

NHS Borders is delighted to announce that we have an exciting opportunity available to become the Clinical Lead for our Staff Support Service in a fixed term post for 0.6wte at Band 8b available for 12 months.

The Staff Support Service has now been in existence for two years. The Clinical Lead has a range of responsibilities. These include providing assessments, formulations and individual treatment to members of NHS Borders staff who may self-refer to the service or be referred by their line managers where there are concerns about mental health and stress related problems. The Clinical Lead is also responsible for providing consultation, advice and training to services across the NHS Borders. In the past this has included delivering training on compassion focused therapy to staff groups in consultation with service managers where the demand for this training has been established.

At present our psychologists in adult mental health services predominantly work from home and this post is suitable for candidates wishing to work remotely.

NHS Borders Psychology Services is a dynamic and supportive service that aims to deliver training and supervision in psychological therapies to the NHS Borders, a rural population of 115 000 people. We are currently undergoing an exciting transformation process which aims to develop mental health services and psychological therapies in a range of intensities and contexts from primary care to inpatient and rehabilitation.

We are in easy reach of Edinburgh – with the majority of our staff based in the capital, often car-sharing. The recent addition of the Tweedbank rail service from Edinburgh has made travel to Tweedbank (45 minutes from Edinburgh and a 20 minute walk to the Borders General Hospital) an attractive commute.

The Scottish Borders is a lovely area to live in, with excellent schools, abundant local amenities and easy access to Edinburgh and transport links.  There are superb leisure facilities and good quality affordable housing which provide ideal opportunities for a high quality of life in this scenic part of the country.

This is an exciting time for the NHS Borders psychology service, and we are looking for enthusiastic professionals who can make a contribution to the service. In return we offer a supportive team, with good opportunities for growth and career development.
