NHS GREATER GLASGOW AND CLYDE
LEAD ADVANCED NURSE PRACTITIONER (LANP)
FLOW NAVIGATION CENTRE
AGENDA FOR CHANGE BAND 8A
NUMBER OF POSTS 1 WTE
SALARY: £56,992 PER ANNUM (PRO RATA FOR LESS THAN FULL TIME HOURS)
The shift pattern for this position is 10am-10pm shifts across 7 days
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Advanced Nurse Practitioner (LANP). The role will be suited to an established Advanced Nurse Practitioner with either a Minor Injuries/Emergency Department / Acute Medical/ Surgical Care or Primary Care background, with significant leadership experience. The Flow Navigation Centre is a continuously evolving service, and the LANP will play a critical role in providing leadership and expertise in developing new pathways to support Urgent & Unscheduled Care.
The Flow Navigation Centre (FNC) was established in NHS GG&C in December 2020, after the Scottish Government identified FNCs as a National priority.
NHS 24 and other partner organisations including SAS, Community Pharmacy and HSCPs refer patients who may require urgent secondary care to the Flow Navigation Centre. An Advanced Nurse Practitioner will conduct a virtual consultation and either manage the patients care or refer the patient to the most appropriate service, scheduling arrivals. ANPs will work within the MTD and are supported by administration staff.
The role involves leading a team of ANPs who undertake virtual (video) consultations with patients who have been identified as requiring urgent secondary care, either in a Minor Injury Unit, Emergency Department or referral to an inpatient specialty team. The service is set to expand with potential to revolutionise the flow of patients into the receiving teams of NHSGGC whilst also working closely with the Scottish Ambulance Service to prevent potentially unnecessary patient conveyance to hospital. During periods of operational expansion, most time will be spent in the Flow Navigation Centre, but in time all ANPs will rotate to clinical areas to maintain clinical competence and a breadth of experience.
Lead ANPs have a key strategic role in supporting the operational management team to implement, deliver and evaluate service developments and provide an expert education resource to the trainee ANP team. It is expected that lead ANP practice will encompass all pillars of advanced practice. The successful candidate will join an established team of Lead ANPs and play a key role in service delivery, senior clinical decision making and service development.
It is an essential requirement that candidates hold a masters level qualification in Advanced Practice and meet the appropriate competencies for the role. Individuals who don’t yet hold a masters level qualification would be supported to obtain. The length of time this would take and what would be involved would depend on what an individual has already completed.
At present the Flow Navigation Centre is temporarily based within the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital whilst a permanent location is found.
The current shift pattern is dayshift, including weekends, with a requirement to work nights as the service evolves to be 24/7.
If you are ready for your next challenge and have the skills to take forward this exciting new opportunity then we welcome your application.
