Fixed Term - 1 Year
We are seeking a motivated physicist to help support clinical MRI services across NHS Lothian and NHS Fife. Currently there is an install base of 10 scanners across these Health Boards, including three 3T scanners installed in state-of-the-art new facilities in the new Department of Clinical Neurosciences and Royal Hospital for Children and Young People. You will join the MRI Physics team, part of the Radiation Protection and Imaging Physics Group, based in the Medical Physics Department at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. You will assist the MRI Physics Team Lead, 1 Principal MRI physicist and 1 Senior MRI physicist to deliver a range of MRI services e.g.MR Safety Expert services, the introduction of new clinical services and support of new MRI techniques and the maintenance and development of quality assurance programmes.
You will hold as a minimum an honours degree or equivalent qualification in a physical science or an appropriate engineering discipline, an MSc in Medical Physics or equivalent and registration as a Clinical Scientist (Medical Physics) with the Health and Care Professions Council. You will have experience of the clinical use, specification and quality assessment of MRI equipment and knowledge of the physical hazards associated with the clinical use of MRI scanners. Experience of investigating the MRI safety of medical devices is desirable.
You must be able to demonstrate initiative, good written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work well as part of a team. The post requires travel across Lothian and Fife and so the ability to work flexibly in a changing environment is essential.
