The shift pattern for this position is 9-5.

We are delighted to invite applications for this permanent Consultant Clinical Psychologist post (up to 2 WTE) within the Directorate of Forensic Mental Health and Learning Disabilities, which is a large and thriving psychology department. This position will involve working with and leading a team of psychology staff within the Medium secure forensic environment with responsibility for leading a specific clinical area.

The forensic clinical psychology department provides psychological assessments and interventions to male and/or female patients suffering from serious mental disorder, including major mental illness, personality disorder and learning disabilities, who may be inpatients or living in the community.  You must be prepared to work in any of the Directorate’s services and for their role and/or base to change when required to meet service needs.

It is essential that you have post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent) as accredited by the BPS including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology with eligibility for Chartering with the BPS and registration with the HCPC; Significant supervised clinical psychology practice experience in NHS or equivalent by a suitably qualified Clinical Psychologist. Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment, both as an independent practitioner and also within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan. Skills as a senior clinician to undertake clinical leadership roles and tasks within multidisciplinary and multi-agency contexts, and training in clinical practice supervision.

The post holder will be required to provide line management and supervision to qualified psychologists, trainees and assistant psychologists and other psychology staff and will be responsible for overseeing psychological care and treatment for patients within the service ensuring that patients are seen within a timely manner. 

You will also be expected to contribute to initiatives across the Directorate and more widely across services in Greater Glasgow and Clyde and the Forensic Network in Scotland. Occasional travel to various locations in Scotland may be required, for example, to assess referrals to the service. 

Previous work in forensic services, including experience of violence risk assessment using a structured professional judgement approach, is highly desirable. This post requires PVG Scheme Membership.  The shift pattern for this post is 9.00am - 5.00pm. 

Please note that the Psychology department is adverting for 2 WTE posts. Up to 1 WTE based within the Male mental illness service, and up to 1 WTE based within Female services/ Male learning disability.
