TCAT Quality Control Manager: Flow Cytometry & Cell Enumeration
About the Organisation:
National Services Scotland (NSS) is a national NHS Board operating right at the heart of NHS Scotland (NHSS) providing support and advice at a strategic and operational level. NSS supports NHSS to deliver their services more efficiently and effectively and we offer shared services on a national scale using best-in-class systems and standards. Our priority is always the same – to improve the health and well-being of the people of Scotland. We do this by working in partnership with colleagues across Health and Social Care to deliver fit for purpose solutions and systems, delivering high quality services that help our stakeholders to free up resources so they can be re-invested into essential services.
The post:
As a vital part of NHS Scotland, NHS National Services Scotland’s purpose is to support Scotland’s Health. We do this by providing a range of specialised support services that enable NHS Boards to focus their efforts on health improvement and delivering excellent patient care.
The core purpose of the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) is to meet the transfusion needs of patients in Scotland. In support of this, the SNBTS Tissues, Cells and Advanced Therapeutics (TCAT) Directorate is committed to a programme that will enhance the service provided to NHS Scotland in both clinical and operational areas. SNBTS undertakes research and development which is designed to support the strategic and operational priorities of the organisation to achieve high quality and impact and add value to broader NHS and Governmental objectives.
The candidate:
This is an exciting opportunity to join the SNBTS TCAT team as a Quality Control (QC) Manager. The TCAT QC laboratories at the Jack Copland Centre (JCC) and Scottish Centre for Regenerative Medicine (SCRM) carry out Flow Cytometry & Cell Enumeration testing, alongside and other analytical techniques: for TCAT, NHS boards and external customers.
The successful candidates will manage TCAT Quality Control services that allow the safe provision of efficacious TCAT products for routine use or clinical trials, on a timely basis: meeting all appropriate quality and regulatory standards.
With significant experience in a flow cytometry laboratory environment, with molecular experience desirable, you will be expected to ensure compliance to GMP standards. You will also be expected to oversee and carry out other QC activities (releasing of GMP materials, environmental monitoring) to support the innovation and establishment of new analytical techniques within TCAT QC.
The successful candidate must be educated to degree level with a relevant postgraduate qualification or equivalent competence/experience. In addition, the post holder must have
Demonstrable experience resulting in specialist knowledge of a range of procedures and processes in the GMP QC of TCAT products. Experience in supervision/management and the ability to motivate an interdisciplinary QC team to ensure delivery of a complex testing service is also essential.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure Scotland check.
