We require an enthusiastic, self-motivated and innovative pharmacist with an interest in pain management, to join our senior prescribing team. An essential part of this post relates to the prescribing and monitoring of all analgesics within NHS Ayrshire and Arran although the post also encompasses medicines management and general prescribing advice.

Working alongside the Primary care pharmacy team and the Acute service team, the role involves promoting the safe, high quality and cost effective pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical management of chronic pain to healthcare professionals within NHS Ayrshire & Arran. The post holder would also be responsible for monitoring current trends in analgesic prescribing quality indicators and using this information to shape future work programmes within both Primary and Secondary Care. The post holder would also attend the Analgesic Working Group and take the lead to deliver any relevant actions that are identified. Delivery of education sessions around pain management to medical and non-medical prescribers will also be required.

The post requires clinical expertise, excellent communication, organisational, mentoring and IT skills. You will be required to deliver direct clinical care to patients in both the acute and community settings.  The ability to work effectively with patients and other healthcare professionals, as well as experience of leading a team is necessary.

You will be a qualified pharmacist with a postgraduate qualification in prescribing or clinical pharmacy or demonstrable expert knowledge to that level. Qualification as a Pharmacist Independent Prescriber would also be essential. Relevant experience in pain and prescribing management as well as clinical reasoning and judgement is essential.

You must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and you should demonstrate a commitment to Continuous Professional Development. 

You may be required to participate in weekend, public holiday and extended hours rotas as required. In accordance with AFC terms and conditions you may be required to work over 7 days and or an extended working day – consideration will be given to part time or job share.

The hours of this post will be 37.5 hours per week. Job share or part time would be considered.​​​​​​​
