​​​​​Job Purpose

An exciting Internal Development opportunity has arisen within NHS Lanarkshire for three enthusiastic and highly motivated Registered Nurses to join the Respiratory Specialist Nursing Team.  We are seeking suitably experienced Registered Nurses who will embrace this exciting and rewarding career opportunity.  The post holders should possess knowledge of the management of patients with acute and chronic respiratory disease and will be required, through time and with support, to demonstrate the ability to work autonomously, proactively and as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team.  This will involve working across professional and organisational boundaries in partnership with other acute care nursing and medical staff, allied health professionals and senior management teams.  The applicants should possess the ability to prioritise fluctuating workloads, remain focused and be flexible in an extremely busy and dynamic clinical environment. The posts are NHSL wide based, various hours and permeant.  

The successful candidate will be fully supported in their professional development of enhanced clinical knowledge and clinical decision-making skills appropriate to the Respiratory Specialist Nurse role. ​​​​​​​

​​​​​​​Qualifications to be undertaken within the role

  • Non-medical prescribing NMC registered (NISP)

  • Advanced Clinical Examination accredited course

  • Anatomy, Physiology and Pathophysiology Module

  • Asthma Diploma Module

  • COPD Diploma Module

​​​​​​Knowledge, Training and/or Experience required to do the job​​​​​​​

  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC Registration

  • Educated to/working towards/operating at Degree Level

  • Post graduate expertise within speciality/area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality/area of practice.

  • Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice ensuring that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within speciality / area of practice.

  • Leadership skills to enable the day to day management of service delivery.

  • Further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualification

Please note - completion of this will be mandatory within an agreed 3-year time frame.

A valid driving license and access to a vehicle is also essential.
