Band 7 – Dermatology Clinical Nurse Specialist, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Dermatology Clinical Nurse Specialist, part-time time (26 hours), to join the existing Dermatology team, based in Dr Gray’s Hospital, Elgin (ARI). The dedicated and integral Dermatology unit in Dr Gray’s, is a nurse led service, supported by the senior clinical team in Aberdeen. The team provides comprehensive Dermatological services for the large geographical region of Moray in Grampian in the North East of Scotland. The post holder will support delivery of care to patients in the Moray area, as well as remotely, to the wider Grampian population.
The role involves the specialist nurse to work autonomously providing Dermatological therapies and treatments, clinical advice and education to patients but also other healthcare professionals. Patients of all ages are seen within chronic disease management clinics from referral to discharge. Clinical work is varied and includes administration of phototherapy, chronic disease management, systemic drug monitoring, allergy testing, minor surgery and skin cancers. They will be the instrumental in implementing change and leading developments within the unit.
The successful applicant will be a registered nurse and educated to first degree level with a commitment to ongoing professional development and experience in dermatology or medical nursing. Applicants who do not meet the person spec currently, and who are committed to working towards a Clinical Nurse Specialist Role, will be considered for a development post. Extensive training will be provided and will be paid utilising an Annex 21 until fully trained. The post holder will be expected to work within the busy, well established department and integrate well into the small team. Therefore, good communication and networking skills are essential.
Dr Gray’s Hospital is located in the west end of Elgin and serves the people of Elgin itself and the large geographical surrounding area of Moray. The hospital has in-patient wards as well as a range of outpatient healthcare specialities, operating theatres, some maternity services while also caring for an ageing population.
Elgin is a bustling, picturesque town located between Aberdeen and Inverness and has a population of approximately 25,000. Elgin and the wider Moray is known worldwide for producing first class whisky and the area is known for its outstanding beauty both inland and along its coastline. The town has good transport links with Aberdeen and Inverness and has a range of schools, high-quality housing and sports facilities.
Elgin is home to Moray College UHI which offers an extensive range of educational courses. It is within close proximity to 2 serving Military bases which allows for a diverse population. Elgin is well known for its historic medieval cathedral and nearby Kinloss for its ruins of an ancient abbey. There are a number of nearby beautiful coastal villages which are perfect for family days at the beach and for pursuing water sports.
