Applications are welcome for the above Fixed Term (12 months), full time/part time (up to 40 hours per week) post based in The Royal Edinburgh Hospital.
This advert is for 1 year fixed term specialty posts working in mental health services in Lothian. These roles would be ideal for candidates who are looking to spend a year between core training and speciality training to develop their knowledge and skills. The post holders will join very well established departments with a high degree of support from colleagues including consultants, other specialty doctors, higher trainees and junior doctors. These posts would also offer an opportunity for psychiatrists looking to work in the NHS for the first time to gain experience in comprehensive mental health teams.
This post is intended to support the existing consultants, career grade doctors and junior doctors in providing high quality patient care within the relevant service. The medical staff work alongside a multidisciplinary team including Nursing staff, Occupational Therapists and Psychologists, both at a Primary and Secondary level. The postholder will be expected to work alongside these other professionals to deliver a holistic treatment plan for each patient.
The main responsibilities are:
- To contribute to the provision of a psychiatric service within the relevant service, primarily people with serious mental illness.
- To provide expertise in the assessment, diagnosis and management of adult patients with complex mental health needs.
- To contribute to and work as part of the multidisciplinary team to ensure a comprehensive approach to patient care.
- To hold Responsible Medical Officer status as defined within the Mental Health (Care & Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003.
- To lead on Mental Health Act work and attend Mental Health Review Tribunals as required.
- To use the Care Programme Approach where appropriate and as defined by CPA guidance.
- To work collaboratively with other parts of the Service and with other specialist services within NHS Lothian.
- To provide nominal cover for colleagues on annual leave and in emergencies for sick leave, adverse weather etc.
