Trainee Operating Department Practitioner

NHS Lanarkshire is delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to existing Healthcare Support Workers or new NHS employees to undertake a Diploma in Higher Education in Operating Department Practitioner programme (Dip He ODP), which is being delivered in partnership with the University of the West of Scotland.

Operating Department Practitioners are members of the multi-disciplinary perioperative team involved with the overall planning and delivery of perioperative care. Operating Department Practitioners are mainly employed in Perioperative areas in the disciplines of anesthetics, scrub and recovery.
The programme duration is 2 years and is a blend of online educational theory and clinical practice-based education. Throughout both years of the programme you will progressively gain experience in a variety of perioperative environments across NHS Lanarkshire and be fully supported by clinical supervisors/assessors.
Successful completion of the programme will lead to professional registration with the Health Care Professions Council and you will retain a Band 5 Perioperative Practitioner vacancy within NHS Lanarkshire. On commencement of the Programme you will be assigned to either University Hospital Hairmyres, Wishaw or Monklands, but gain some experience in all 3, during your training.
It is essential that you are a self-motivated, enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills. You must be committed to independent study and personal development and also be proficient in the use of digital technology, information systems and email.
To enter the programme you require:
· Passes in the Scottish National Qualifications in five subjects including two at H Level; or passes in the GCSE/GCE in four subjects including one at A Level; or SQA National Qualifications/Edexcel Foundation/SVQ level 3 or above; or SCQF level 7.
· To meet HCPC (2018) requirements for accreditation, all candidates must be able to communicate in English to the standard equivalent to level 7 of the International English Language Testing System, with no element below 6.5.
*For trainees covered by Annex 21 where the period of training lasts for between one and four years, pay will be as follows:
· up to 12 months prior to completion of training - 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate;
· more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training - 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate of the qualified;
· more than two but less than three years prior to completion of training - 65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate;
· more than three years from completion of training - 60 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate
