NHS Lothian covers Edinburgh city, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian. We are the second largest health system in NHS Scotland and one of only four teaching Boards. We have strategic partnerships with local Universities and our four Health and Social Care Partnerships. We serve a population of 900,000, providing a range of primary, community based and acute hospital services. We also provide regional and national services across a range of clinical specialties.

The vision for the Pharmacy & Medicines service is to deliver clinically led, person-centred services to ensure patients across Lothian get the best from their medicines and pharmacy services.  We are focussed on creating an environment where each person in the team has the opportunity to flourish, develop and make best use of their skills.

The Western General Hospital is a large teaching hospital in a popular area near the city centre, with an established reputation for offering the best practice across a wide variety of specialist services. The Medicine of the Elderly (MOE) services at the Western General Hospital site provides high quality multi-disciplinary care to patients across 5 MOE wards and a 26-bed acute stroke unit.  The caring and dynamic team are friendly and welcoming.

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic pharmacist to join the team delivering the highest quality pharmacy services across these areas.  The successful candidate will work closely with the multidisciplinary team where pharmacists have an established role with clinical decision making, including non-medical prescribing. This is an exciting time to join the MOE pharmacy team as the team is developing and expanding to meet the needs of the service. There will also be service improvement opportunities in the clinical service and also within the pharmacy department. We are also committed to personal development in line with RPS frameworks.

Candidates will have experience pro-actively influencing prescribing within a secondary care environment, and will have gained experience working in a patient focussed environment using their knowledge and skills to improve patient care and promote optimal outcomes from medicines.

Candidates must have a Master of Pharmacy Degree or equivalent, must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), and should have completed or have equivalent competence as mapped to the Post Registration Foundation Pharmacist Framework available at:
