Post Details – An exciting opportunity has arisen for Registered Nurses (Mental Health or Learning Disability) to join our innovative and dynamic nursing team here at The State Hospital.

Situated midway between Glasgow and Edinburgh, the hospital is the only high secure forensic mental health care facility in Scotland which has the dual responsibility of caring for a group of unwell, detained, patients whilst safeguarding them and the public from harm.

We are looking for hardworking, conscientious, individuals who are committed to delivering high quality nursing care. As a Charge Nurse you will work an identified shift pattern and be responsible for supporting colleagues to deliver the highest standards of person-centred care. You will act also be an integral member of the multidisciplinary team.

To work in the role of Charge Nurse you must have excellent communication skills and show an ability to be flexible and forward-thinking. You must be able to work under pressure and demonstrate the ability to remain calm in challenging situations. Team working is essential balanced with the ability to work autonomously and manage your own work load.

As a Charge Nurse you will work with Senior Charge Nurse and Charge Nurse colleagues to support both staff and service development initiatives. As such, you should be able to demonstrate evidence of ongoing professional and/or leadership development (e.g. working as a clinical supervisor, New to Forensics mentor, practice supervisor, or enrolment in courses such as the Institute of Leadership and Management, Project Lift or Quality Improvement training).

Whilst previous experience of forensic healthcare would be helpful this is not essential. The State Hospital offers excellent learning opportunities to support ongoing professional development.

For an informal discussion please contact Senior Charge Nurse, Warren on 01555 842241
