LOTHIAN UNSCHEDULED CARE SERVICE (LUCS)

GP DEVELOPMENT FELLOWSHIPS

Reference: CG2677

Lothian Unscheduled Care Service offers post CCT opportunities to undertake a GP Development fellowship, the current posts being available from August 2023.

Are you looking for an opportunity to get some more experience in day-time general practice and work as part of a regular team? You might be hoping to secure some time to focus on professional development activities. Have you really enjoyed your GPR OOH experience?

If so, you may be interested in becoming a GP Development Fellow (GPDF) working within both daytime practice and out of hours services, with some additional funded time to concentrate on a professional development initiative.

Lothian Unscheduled Care Service (LUCS) is hosting 12-month Development Fellowship positions. The role has three distinct components:

  1. Up to fourteen hours per week for LUCS on a fixed four-week pattern. All types of out-of-hours shifts will be an option, including weekdays, weekends, days, evenings and nights
  2. Up to four sessions each week within a set GP practice. You can organise this part of the role yourself. The sessions should be planned   to fit alongside your out of hours and professional development commitments. Alternatively, you might wish to undertake a different clinical role.
  3. Professional development: there will be many different options to consider, such as medical education or teaching, a Quality Improvement project, or even tailoring work attachments to develop towards GPwSI status. Up to 14 hours weekly.

This post is available up to 48 hours, at a pro-rata salary circa £85,000, however there is flexibility for reduced hours commitments.

LUCS has hosted these roles before in recent years, and we have former GP CDFs who are happy to share their experiences, including how it led them on to pursue further GP interests.

If you think this sounds like an interesting opportunity for you and you wish to discuss before you submit an application, we’d love to hear from you.

In the first instance please contact either Dr Hayley Harris (Clinical Director, LUCS) or Ed Witkowski (Clinical Service Manager, LUCS).
