Return to Practice Nursing and Midwifery programme
This programme is an exciting collaboration with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) and Glasgow Caledonian University, delivering an employer-led model for Return to Practice, enabling previously registered nurses and midwives to return to the NMC register.
You will have access to a blend of online and face-to-face learning and teaching and undertake a practice learning experience within NHSGGC to refresh your knowledge and skills to enable you to return to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register.
You will be recruited to the programme jointly by NHSGGC and Glasgow Caledonian University. Your programme fees will be paid in full and you will be employed as a Nursing or Midwifery return to practice student by NHSGGC on a temporary contract throughout the return to practice programme and paid at Agenda for Change band 2.
You will complete a total of 300 or 450 hours of practice which will be dependent on the length and circumstances for the lapse of your registration. This will be discussed individually and agreed with each candidate at interview. The practice learning hours you complete each week can be flexible, full time or part time. You will be a supernumerary member of staff and be working in the capacity of a nursing or midwifery student whilst undertaking the Return to Practice Programme.
Applications are invited from nurses and midwives with a lapse of registration for the Return to Practice programme commencing late September 2023.
Entry requirements:
- Evidence of current NMC Statement of entry
- Declaration of any NMC Order (if relevant)
- Following successful interview, undertake and complete all required pre-employment checks
- Commitment to fulfil the programme requirements and remain within employment for a minimum of one year within NHSGGC
- Undertake the academic and practice elements of the programme without interruption
Our Commitment to you
- Your programme fees will be paid in full
- NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde will support you financially, meaning you will be paid as a band 2 (£23,362 - £25,368) for the duration of the programme
- On successful completion of the programme you will be offered employment as a registered practitioner in a substantive post in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde
- You will receive academic and practice learning support for the duration of your programme to facilitate your return to the NMC register
What happens next?

Interviews will be held between the 26th of June and the 7th of July 2023. Successful candidates will be required to commence the return to practice programme in late September 2023.
