NHS Lothian covers Edinburgh City, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian. We are the second largest health system in NHS Scotland and one of only four teaching Boards. We have strategic partnerships with local Universities, Local Authorities and our four Integration Joint Boards. We serve a population of 900,000, providing a range of primary, community based and acute hospital services. We also provide regional and national services across a range of clinical specialties.

The vision for the Pharmacy & Medicines service is to deliver clinically led, person-centred services to ensure patients across Lothian get the best from their medicines and pharmacy services.  We are focussed on creating an environment where each person in the team has the opportunity to flourish, develop and make best use of their skills.

General Practice Clinical Pharmacists (GPCP) employed to deliver the Pharmacotherapy service are invited to complete the NHS Education for Scotland (NES) Pathway to Advanced practice programme. The existing NES GPCP Advanced Practice framework has now been mapped to the recently launched Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) Core Advanced Pharmacist Curriculum which covers all sectors of pharmacy practice

NHS Lothian Education Research and Development (ERD) team have an exciting opportunity for a motivated, dynamic pharmacist with an interest in developing advanced practice in the pharmacist workforce. They will work to create a support network and infrastructure which enables pharmacists to increase their confidence in person-centred and clinical assessment skills. There will be the opportunity to work with NES, the ERD Team, clinical supervisors and pharmacist educational supervisors to develop a programme of learning.

Candidates must have a Master of Pharmacy degree or equivalent, be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and have relevant post-registration experience with evidence of postgraduate training and professional development. Candidates must have a good knowledge of the NES GPCP framework or RPS Core Advanced Pharmacist curriculum.  An independent prescribing qualification is desirable. Good team working and interpersonal skills are essential, and experience of project/change management is desirable. We are flexible to considering the recruitment of one or two post holders, please note in your application if you would prefer a 15hrs or 7.5hrs post.
