NHS Grampian

Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry

Job Ref: EG151057

We are pleased to be able to offer this whole time post which covers a population of approx 11000 over 65s covering West of Moray (with a second Old Age Psychiatrist caring for those in East Moray), with beds in Dr Gray’s Hospital, Elgin and Seafield Hospital, Buckie.

This post is based at Dr Gray’s Hospital, Elgin, a modern District General Hospital with a range of specialties and diagnostic facilities.  One of the attractions of working in Moray is a tradition of close working with colleagues from General Practice and the Local Authority. Since April 2016 this has been formalised as an Integrated Joint Board.

The Royal Burgh of Elgin thrives as a centre of administration, education, tourism and trade with agricultural, service and textile industries.  Situated in Scotland’s Castle and Whisky country, the area offers a wide range of recreational activities such as golf, fishing, hill walking, surfing, canoeing, cycling, horse riding and winter sports. This is an opportunity to live and work in a beautiful part of Scotland that offers a great quality of life and has good transport links with the rest of the UK.

The postholder will be expected to contribute to Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching.  The postholder will be expected to register with the Continuing Professional Development Programme of the Royal College of Psychiatrists for which all costs will be met by NHS Grampian.  There are opportunities for research and close links exist between the Service and the Departments of Mental Health and Psychology of the University of Aberdeen.  The postholder will be expected to contribute to audit and other elements of Clinical Governance.  A detailed Job Plan will be agreed with the successful candidate at the time of appointment to meet service needs, taking account of the experience, skills and interests of the candidate and how they can best be used within the Consultant team.  The post holder will be expected to engage in annual appraisal towards revalidation.

The post is advertised as whole time.  Candidates unable to work whole time for personal reasons will be eligible to be considered for the post and, if appointed, an appropriately amended job description will be agreed

Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required. (licence to practise must be in place prior to starting in post).  For more information visit www.gmc-uk.org

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.

Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).

Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made.  Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.
