This is a full time fixed term post for 2 years. The hours of work are 9am – 5pm.

The R&I Innovation Lead is one of the key appointments in Innovation Management and Governance in Scotland, having a strategic and operational role at regional and local levels. In line with the Logan Report, Scottish Government has made a strong commitment to making Scotland a go to location for innovation activity. The joined aim is to both address Health & Social Care priorities while growing companies, jobs and supply chains. Partnership working with industry is a key component of innovation.

The job of the Innovation Lead is to provide strong leadership and vision to the Innovation service; the post holder is tasked with devising and delivering a management and governance framework that not only regulates clinical innovation but also creates a supportive and productive environment for clinical and translational science in the NHS and in universities across the region. Given the political, economic and socio-medical spotlight on the delivery of funding programmes that accelerate the translation of medtech and digital health innovations into the NHS, it is critical that the post holder operates at the highest possible level of effectiveness and efficiency.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD or equivalent qualification and experience in the field of life sciences, a MBA or equivalent qualification and experience is highly desirable. The candidate will have significant experience in management in the NHS or life sciences arena at a senior level, awareness of regulatory requirements,  a high level of, strategic, technical, and leadership skills, a proven track record in managing complex teams and ability to negotiate SLA’s, contracts, manage budgets and complex teams.
