The shift pattern for this post is 0830-2000,Mon-Fri.
This post is for a Registered Nurse (Adult) or Midwife, interested in working within a small specialised team with the aim of providing assessment and support for clients seeking termination of pregnancy. The TOPAR (Termination of Pregnancy and Referral) service is provided in a community sexual health setting, based at Sandyford Central, and hosted by North West HSCP.
We also work closely with other agencies such as acute services within GGC health board, Early Pregnancy Units, BPAS, Archway SARC and Counselling services.
Key to this role is excellent communication skills and dealing with those who are emotionally and physically distressed, in an efficient and timely manner. Providing clear information regarding client options following a thorough assessment, either in person or via telemedicine, as well as providing support and reassurance is important.
Good working knowledge of all forms of contraception and benefits of sexual health screening / cervical screening as well as ability to give clear information and encourage engagement of clients with health promotion where possible.
Establishing viability and gestation of pregnancy is part of the assessment. Discussing medication effects and possible side effects with sensitivity. Previous experience of working within any field of Gynaecology would be advantageous.
Essential :
- Registered Nurse(Adult) or Midwife
- Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in job description
- Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to speciality
- IT competent
- Excellent communication skills
Desirable:
- Appropriate Post registration qualification, relevant experience in Gynaecology or
- Ultrasound Scanning competence.
- Sub-dermal contraceptive implant fitting competence
- Non-medical prescriber V300 qualification
