​​​​​​​An opportunity has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic sexual health/BBV nurse to join our healthcare teams within NHS Forth Valley prisons.

The ability to demonstrate high quality, person–centred care and good team working is essential. Keenness towards developing practice with appropriate and satisfactory clinical and interpersonal skills is necessary.

You will require being a first level registered general nurse and evidence ongoing personal development with a willingness to work towards Sexual & Reproductive Health qualification.

As part of the primary care team this specific practitioner nurse role will focus solely on the provision of sexual health clinics across the 3 Forth Valley prisons (HMP Glenochil, HMP & YOI Stirling & HMP & YOI Polmont).  This service runs Monday to Friday. 

This service is nurse led and you will work both autonomously and along side a Band 6 Nurse.  A specialist Dr clinic runs once a week.

Within this service you will be required to:

  • Perform routine asymptomatic testing
  • Provide information to patients on common Blood Borne viruses and Sexually Transmitted Infections
  • Advise patients of diagnosis, provide treatment and follow up including partner notification.
  • Provide vaccinations including Twinrix and HPV
  • Promote and support individuals to undertake routine smears.
  • Promote contraception including starting new contraception or continuing existing prescription.
  • Support individuals in recognising the symptoms of menopause and obtaining treatment for these.
  • Support the care of patients with HIV and Hepatitis in partnership with our local HIV consultant and Hepatology team.
  • You will need to communicate regularly with prison health care staff and sexual health services in other health boards to support the smooth transfer of patient care if a patient is admitted/transferred or liberated.
  • You will have the opportunity to support health improvement sessions.

Shift pattern will be Monday – Friday 0800-1600hrs
