Job Advert

Within the Scottish Ambulance Service, advanced practice is developing at pace. In the last five years we have introduced Advanced Practitioners in Urgent and Emergency Care, developed a new clinical response model, rolled out Critical Care Practitioners, developed a new education programme and improved survival from Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrests (OHCA) to world leading levels.  We are now embarking on our next 10-year strategy which will see the Service sustain these changes and further develop the clinical care we deliver.

This post will provide strong leadership and work with the Advanced Practice Regional Clinical Leads, the Education Department and Regional Managers to implement the infrastructure for our growing advanced practice multi-disciplinary workforce. This includes liaising with local Primary Care and Out Of Hours providers for trainee placements, initial set up and ongoing audit. A significant amount of  time is also spent liaising with Regions, recruiting AP staff, managing local staff training and support needs, being involved with Datix/SAERs, undertaking clinical audit, attending patient safety and RMT meetings, as well as regional Non-Medical Prescribing groups and Advanced Practice Academies.

To be successful in this role, the post-holder will work as part of the Advanced Practice senior leadership team to ensure partnership and collaborative working across a range of educational and service delivery structures within the service and with external partners, to support the development of new models, policies, procedures and standards for patient care.

The successful candidate will be a qualified Advanced Practitioner and a current HCPC or NMC registered professional, with experience of leadership and educational provision within advanced practice. We are looking for highly motivated, clinical professionals who have experience of working within an advanced practice governance and safety framework, who can demonstrate credible clinical knowledge as well as a diverse range of operational experience within a complex healthcare system. The posts will require influencing ability and the drive and passion to deliver improvements to outcomes for patients who need the support of the Scottish Ambulance Service. It is desirable that candidates can demonstrate experience of professional leadership, improvement projects and creating the conditions for others to grow and develop their knowledge and skills to the benefit of patient care and staff confidence.

The post is offered on a full time, permanent basis. The role will be as North Region Advanced Practice Clinical Lead with a shared remit for supporting East and West Region Advanced Practice Clinical Leads. As a national role, there is flexibility in the location of the post and agile working is desirable, travel across Scotland will be required on occasions. The post is an Agenda for Change 8A post and may have occasional requirement to work unsocial hours including evenings, weekends and overnight.

It is anticipated that face to face interviews will be held on the 30th June 2023 at National Headquarters, 1 South Gyle Crescent, Edinburgh EH12 9EB.
