Argyll & Bute Mental Health services in partnership with the Open University are delighted to be able to offer this exciting opportunity for the right candidates to earn while they learn working towards an NMC approved mental health nursing qualification.

The nursing degree pathway post will enable people to train to become a graduate registered mental health nurse locally through an in-house training route.

Trainees will be released by their employer to undertake training in a range of practice placement settings.

Initially, you will be recruited on a fixed term contract in to a healthcare support worker role where you will undertake a period of supported induction within Succoth Ward, Mid Argyll Community Hospital, Lochgilphead. You will then commence the Certificate of Higher Education in Healthcare Practice with support from trained colleagues, practice education staff and your Open University tutor. On successful completion of the certificate you will then be offered a permanent contract and will commence stage 2 of the Open University BSc (Honours) Nursing (Mental Health).

On completion of the BSc (Honours) Nursing (Mental Health) and registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council you will be offered a staff nurse post in one of our mental health services locally.

In order to apply you must meet the education and personal attributes of the nursing programme:

Literacy (functional skills level 2 or equivalent e.g. National 5 English, GCSE Grade C or above in English)

Numeracy (functional skills level 2 or equivalent e.g. National 5 Numeracy or Maths GCSE Grade C or above in Maths)

Good character, evidenced through self-declaration, an enhanced criminal record disclosure, and two references – one of which must be from your current employer (where applicable)

Good health, evidenced through self-declaration of health status, occupational health screening, review of previous sickness and absence record, and two references – one of which must be from your current employer (where applicable)

Successful completion of interview and assessment of your personal values matched to the requirements for sensitive nursing practices as defined by: Everyone Matters
