DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC HEALTH

Waverley Gate

Reference: CG2701

Lothian Public Health Department has strong partnerships across Public, Voluntary and Community sectors with many examples of good practice and innovation to protect and improve population health. In common with Scotland as a whole, the pandemic has compounded many of the health challenges we are grappling with, which are significant and in places worsening.

We are looking for a creative, experienced public health professional who can work closely with the Director of Public Health and the Senior Team to provide leadership to deliver our objectives to improve health and reduce inequalities.  As Deputy Director of Public Health you will work with partners seeking to transform their systems to improve the health of the population, partners who aspire to put population health at the centre of everything they do. This means working with colleagues across the Lothian health and care system to support our strategic development framework and across community planning partnerships to deliver health in all policies.  A recent department review means we now have dedicated healthcare public health and population health teams and we are moving towards a regional health protection service; our partnership and place teams are a dedicated place-based resource across our four local authorities whose core role is tackling inequalities.

If successful, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of the specialist Public Health Departments contribution to this partnership working across Lothian to increase our shared focus on prevention and reducing inequalities. It is important to us that we do this in a way that nurtures and grows the skills in our team. You will also deputise for the Director of Public Health making this an ideal role for an experienced Public Health Consultant looking for a new challenge.

The balance of time within the Job Plan and any specific Portfolio will be negotiated taking account of the interests of the successful applicant and the needs of the organisation.
