The post holder has responsibility to carry out mental health, bio-psychosocial assessments, and risk assessments for patients attending Acute Medical Unit and  Emergency Department at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh(RIE) and other areas of the general hospital where patients are receiving medical treatment .

They will deliver high quality care in accordance with the values, skills and knowledge of the capability framework.

To offer a seamless mental health assessment service to patients presenting to the Emergency Department (ED) and Acute Medical Unit (AMU) at RIE.

Carry a small outpatient caseload.

Be involved in care planning for patients who attend ED on a frequent basis.

Provide psychological intervention and follow-up  to specified patient groups

The post holders time  will be  divided between carrying out assessments of patients who present in  crisis, delivering psychological therapy to patients with long term medical conditions and supporting anticipatory care planning for people who frequently attend the RIE site.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post. 

Please note: As one post is part-time the salary will be pro-rata.
