GPwSI in Emergency Medicine (Fixed term)
GP sessional rate.

We are looking for a Fixed term GPwSI in Emergency Medicine to join our team to provide maternity cover for one of our current GPwSI. This will be fixed term from August 2023 for 8 months

GPwSI post :
Variety of 8 – 12 hr shifts throughout week and weekend to cover 10am – 10pm weekdays and 8-8pm weekends.

Weekday – 1 session per 4 hours
8 am – 8pm Sat / Sun – 1 session per 3 hours.

Up to 2-3 weekday sessions and 6 weekend sessions per month available.

You will work in the new Emergency Department at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, which opened in 2012. The department has an annual attendance of 68 000 with approximately 25% paediatric cases.

Your role will be to utilise and build on your skills as a general practitioner. You will be supported in developing new skills in Emergency medicine and work in all areas of the emergency department. Prior experience in emergency medicine during your GP training is essential for these maternity cover posts. You will assess the undifferentiated presentation of both adult and paediatric patients. You will provide clinical advice to more junior members of the medical team and support the EM consultants and ED triage nurses. You will be expected to support consultants in the new 111 virtual ED Flow and navigation with telephone triage of 4 hr pathway patients and managing scheduled patients within the ED.

We perform well in key areas such as sepsis, trauma and stroke thrombolysis. We have an excellent relationship and collaborate closely with all in-patient teams. As a department we are committed to teaching and providing a positive experience of EM to our junior doctors. Our trainees rate their experiences in Fife highly and this is recognised regionally and in GMC surveys.

All our current GPwSIs are positive about the experience of working within the ED. They feel their skills are valued, and that the knowledge gained working in the ED contributes to their work in primary care. In addition, their primary care skills are a valuable resource for the Emergency Department both on a case by case basis and for staff education.

NHS Fife welcomes applications from both newly qualified and established GP’s to join and expand our motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated team.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT in General practice or have evidence of completion of their GP accredited training.
