The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh pharmacy service is pleased to offer a number of posts for recruitment.  These exciting roles are for highly motivated and enthusiastic pharmacists to join the well established clinical pharmacy teams within a variety of specialities. We are a large teaching hospital with an established reputation for offering best practice across a wide variety of specialist services in the adult setting. There will be opportunities for advancement not only in clinical skills but also in service development. This is a great opportunity for rotational pharmacists looking for progression or a specialist pharmacist who wishes to expand your clinical portfolio.

Candidates must have a Master of Pharmacy Degree or equivalent, must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), and should have completed or be working towards completion of the Post-Registration Foundation Programme or equivalent competency.

You will be given the opportunity to apply for postgraduate training including Independent Prescribing courses. These posts participate in the pharmacy on-call, weekend and public holiday service.

Ideally, candidates will have experience pro-actively influencing prescribing within a secondary care environment Canditates will have gained experience working in a patient focussed environment using their knowledge and skills to improve patient care and promote optimal outcomes from medicines.

Acute and General Medicine (2.5 posts)

Acute and General Medicine at the Royal Infirmary provides immediate and early management of medical patients who require urgent or emergency care, across assessment areas, short-stay and in-patient wards. The pharmacy team deliver clinical pharmacy services to the Acute Medical Unit, and General Medicine wards.  As a key member of the multidisciplinary team, the post holders will contribute to the development and delivery of the clinical pharmacy service in the face of emerging challenges around site capacity and patient flow.

GIRLTV (General Surgery)/Aseptic (Rotational) (2 posts)

The GIRLTV clinical pharmacy team provide pharmacy services to Gastrointestinal, Liver, Renal & Haematology Medicine, Renal and Liver Transplant, Vascular and General Surgery. As a key member of the multidisciplinary team, the post holders will contribute to the development and delivery of the clinical pharmacy service to General Surgery. You will work closely with the senior pharmacists and wider multidisciplinary teams to provide a high quality service with opportunities for non-medical prescribing.

In the Aseptic rotation, the post holders will have authorised pharmacist duties and deputise for the accountable pharmacist.  There will also be opportunities to be in involved in service development and management.  The successful candidates will be given the opportunity to undertake training and development e.g. Aseptic Preparation and Dispensing of Medicines, Aseptic Service for Managers to further their career in either Aseptic or Quality Assurance services.

Medicine of the Elderly (1 post)

The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery and development of pharmaceutical care to the Medicine of the Elderly directorate (comprising 142 beds) which includes a dedicated Integrated Stroke Unit based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. We work as part of the multidisciplinary team contributing to medicines optimisation, patient flow and quality improvement.

Critical Care (1 post)

The successful candidate will join our well-established Critical Care clinical pharmacy team, where pharmacists have an established non-medical prescribing role. The post holder will work closely with members of the Critical Care multidisciplinary team and will have valued input into the daily consultant led ward rounds.

Clinical specialties seen within the busy general Critical Care unit include Liver and Renal Transplant Medicine, Vascular and General Surgery, Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, Toxicology, Gastrointestinal Medicine, Neurology and Hepatology. The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh is also a Major Trauma Centre for the southeast of Scotland.
