Join NHS Fife as Consultant Rheumatologist

Make a meaningful difference, whilst striking that important work life balance on Scotland’s stunning East coast

We’re one of Scotland’s most innovative and forward-thinking Health Boards

Based in Kirkcaldy, the Fife Rheumatology Service is looking to recruit a Consultant with a strong focus on inflammatory arthritis and autoimmune connective tissue diseases. The Service, which was established in 1994, comprises of four consultants and a large multi-disciplinary team, and takes a strong, dynamic, and holistic approach to the management of people with rheumatic disease.

You will take up general rheumatology outpatient clinical commitments and will contribute to the in-patient clinical commitment. You will also assist in the development of the service and can develop your own special interest.

Why Fife ?

With stunning coastlines, unrivalled access to outdoor activities, world famous local cuisine, and areas steeped in history, the Kingdom of Fife is swiftly emerging from the shadows of Scotland’s major cities. Whether you are an outdoors person, or someone who prefers the busy night-lights, Fife has something for everyone at a stone’s throw from Scotland’s major cities.

The Fife Rheumatology Service – Nationally recognised innovation

First in Scotland to introduce a fast-track referral pathway for giant cell arteritis.

First in Scotland to implement medication review meetings for governance of biologic therapies.

Continued commitment to advanced practice skills.

We’re proud of our forward-thinking team, who regularly evaluate and implement evidence-based practise.

The unit was recently runner up in the Scottish Government’s self-management awards for our inflammatory arthritis programme and we’ve evolved the pathway for patients, who are managed within the multi-disciplinary team with an even stronger emphasis on their own empowerment and self-management.

We’re also one of six winners of the National Axial Spondyloarthritis Society’s ‘Aspiring to Excellence’ awards, which encourage and recognise service improvement in axial spondyloarthritis.

Striking that important work life balance

Our staff are at the heart of everything that we do – therefore, we understand the importance of a healthy and flexible approach to work life balance.

We know how important the work we do is, but we also understand that our staff have a life and responsibilities outside the NHS. That’s why, in addition to benefits like pension contributions, increasing holidays in line with length of service, and career progression support, we work with staff and ensure their roles work for them and those closest to them.

We strongly believe that a fulfilling career helping people to live long and healthy lives should not mean choosing between work and home life.

Informal enquiries and visits are welcome and should initially be made to:
