Applications are invited for a 1.0wte Band 8a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to work in our busy, innovative, friendly and supportive team in Paediatric Psychology in the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. This is an exciting opportunity for candidates with a passion for working with children and young people with physical health conditions.  We have 2 posts available. We welcome applications from candidates seeking both full time and part time posts (minimum 3 days) Applications from newly qualifying psychologists are also welcomed.  The post will be based at the Royal Hospital for Children on the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital campus, Glasgow. Successful applicants may also be asked to work some sessions from the West Glasgow Ambulatory Care Hospital campus.


The RHC is one of the largest children’s hospitals in the UK and is the regional and national center for several medical specialties for children and young people across Scotland. The successful candidate will work with both outpatients and inpatients.  Psychologists are part of a large supportive psychology team structure of around 20 Psychologists with many opportunities for collaborative working and service development. Psychologists work closely as embedded members of medical specialty teams and we have a variety of opportunities currently available including Burns, Diabetes, Gastroenterology, Haematology, Oncology, Rheumatology and Respiratory.  

The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to support multidisciplinary clinical colleagues across the whole hospital through consultation on psychosocial care; contributing to MDT and ward meetings; and teaching and training activities including delivery of the NHS Education for Scotland TIPS-PH (Training in Psychological Skills – Paediatric Healthcare) modules. There will also be opportunities for research and audit.  Paediatric Psychology work closely with the other acute mental health/psychology teams within the hospital (Paediatric Liaison Psychiatry; Paediatric Neuropsychology; and Maternity and Neonatal Psychological Interventions).  These posts form part of a network of over 100 psychologists in Specialist Children’s Services in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and a much larger psychology workforce across the care groups in the health board. The service has strong links with both the Glasgow University Doctoral training in Clinical Psychology and the Edinburgh University MSc course in Applied Psychology for Children and Young People and there will be regular opportunities to supervise both doctoral and MSc trainees. You will have a Doctoral level of qualification in Clinical Psychology and be registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC). You will have completed (or we will support) Supervision training.
