The Golden Jubilee University National Hospital are excited to provide this fantastic opportunity for motivated Registered Nurses and Operating Department Practitioners train as Surgical First Assistants.
This role involves successful completion of the Surgical First Assistance in Operative Procedures course, consisting of clinical supervision and skills gained working in clinical practice in Theatres at NHS Golden Jubilee and completion of an academic portfolio supported by Edgehill University.
The theatre suite in NHS Golden Jubilee is expanding, with phase 2 due to open in 2023/4. Our General Surgery and Colorectal service continues to expand, incorporating robotic hernia repair and robotic colorectal resections using the Da Vinci robot.
There is an opportunity for further learning and development in this role, with in-house development courses on offer. Our Clinical Education team is also on hand to provide support including a comprehensive induction including Immediate Life Support and Manual Handling, as well as speciality specific training sessions.
Applications are invited from Registered Nurses or Operating Department Practitioners with significant scrub experience in the peri-operative environment, and demonstrable clinical experience in general surgery and colorectal theatres.

The academic component of the training will be delivered either from Edge Hill University, or Glasgow Caledonian University in partnership with NHS Scotland Academy.
