An exciting opportunity has arisen for the appointment of a dynamic and forward thinking band 6 health protection nurse, to join the health protection care home team in public health. The role would involve assessing, planning, coordinating and delivering Infection prevention control and outbreak preparedness and management education in care homes in NHS Grampian. Although based at Summerfield house, the post would involve travelling across Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray to various care settings. Therefore, the successful candidate should have a valid UK driving licence and have access to a car.

Key Tasks

  • Liaise with key stakeholders, care inspectorate, providers, Health and Social Care Partnerships and care home managers to support and offer specialist advice regarding Infection Control Prevention (IPC)) and outbreak management education.
  • Support and advise the Collaborative Care Home Support Teams and care home staff regarding education around IPC practice and outbreak management, ensuring it is evidence based and consistent across Grampian.
  • Delivering education and training workshops in outbreak preparedness and management thus reducing onward transmission as well as involved in quality improvement.
  • Support the development of any future training provision of Infection Prevention and outbreak management to prepare care home staff to routinely practice robust outbreak prevention, early detection and outbreak management, thus minimising onward transmission of communicable diseases.
  • Participate in care home visits and offer expert advice when there is evidence of ongoing transmission.

This would be an ideal secondment opportunity to gain experience in infection prevention, teaching and introduction to the health protection team. The role is a fixed term contract until the end of March 2024. Interviews will take place the 11th of September 2023.
