About the Organisation:
Public Health Scotland is a new organisation, set up to improve the lives of people in Scotland, to reduce health inequalities that persist in many of our communities. It’s an exciting time to join the organisation, with PHS at the forefront of Scotland’s efforts to tackle Coronavirus and its implications across society.
The Post:
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Clinical and Protecting Health Directorate of PHS, who are recruiting to a Senior Health Improvement Officer role within the Immunisation Team, which has responsibility for confidence, informed consent and equity aspects. This national post work closely with colleagues in PHS and key external stakeholders across the public sector (including Scottish Government, the NHS, local government, voluntary, community and private sectors).
This portfolio has a major impact on improving how PHS contributes to the reduction of health inequalities and improves the health and wellbeing of the most marginalised and excluded people in our communities.
The Candidate:
You will have a sound understanding of structural and systemic health inequalities, the drivers and intent of equality and diversity, human rights and legislation and policy and its application in practice to the Public Sector in Scotland.
The post holder will support the development and management of complex projects, including the delivery of inclusive and accessible public health information, focused on building public confidence in the national programmes, supporting informed consent and addressing equity. They will support national health inequalities impact assessments and engagement work that will ensure a cohesive and co-ordinated approach to the reduction of health inequalities and improvement in population health and health equity. The role will involve engaging with a range of stakeholders to understand the enablers and barriers to participating in the national programmes. The post holder will help to develop, test and evaluate tailored information for groups showing lower participation in national programmes.
The post holder will have outstanding interpersonal and written communication skills including presentation, group facilitation, influencing and negotiation, chairing and facilitating meetings, including the ability to assimilate complex information, summarise key issues and present in an effective format to a range of different audiences to improve practice. The post holder will display the Public Health Scotland values of: collaboration, integrity, respect, innovation and excellence in delivering all aspects of the role.
Location and Working Pattern:
Glasgow or Edinburgh. PHS operate a hybrid working model with a mixture of working at home and days in the office each week.
There will be an expectation to travel to local areas for some meetings and events.
This post is full time (37.5 hours per week) for a period of 6 months.
During times of public health emergency or another urgent business need, you may be required on a temporary basis to work your normal contracted working hours over 7 days including weekends to meet the needs of the service.
Salary placement will start at the bottom point of the scale unless individuals have previous NHS experience.
It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with PHS.
