About the Organisation:

Public Health Scotland is a new organisation, set up to improve the lives of people in Scotland, to reduce health inequalities that persist in many of our communities. The Post: 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Healthcare Scientist (Epidemiology) to work within the multidisciplinary Gastrointestinal and Zoonoses (GIZ) team in Clinical and Protecting Health Directorate. The GIZ team is re-establishing its programme of work post COVID pandemic and is looking to add to the team. 

Responsibilities of the postholder will include leading the GIZ healthcare scientists team programme of work, provision of operational support and expert scientific advice, research, education and training, and will involve collaboration with a large number of internal and external stakeholder groups.

The Candidate:

Educated to Degree level in a science related subject (or equivalent), with a Postgraduate qualification in a health related discipline and together with a PhD or equivalent extensive experience in public health or health protection, you will also have excellent organisational skills.

We are looking for applicants with an enthusiastic, flexible approach and good organisation skills. You will have training or experience in epidemiological methods including the use of statistical packages; highly developed verbal and written communication skills and a proven track record as a team player.

Location and Working Pattern:

The work base for this post would be either Central Quay, Glasgow or Gyle Square, Edinburgh.  

This post will be initially based at 2 Central Quay, Glasgow. This will be for a temporary period only as PHS will be relocating to office accommodation at 177 Bothwell Street, Glasgow.  The exact date of the move to 177 Bothwell Street is still to be confirmed but is expected to take place early next year.

PHS operate a hybrid working model with a mixture of working at home and days in the office each week.  

The post is full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday and we operate flexi time.

During times of public health emergency, or other urgent business need, you may be required on a temporary basis to work your normal contracted working hours over 7 days including weekends, in order to meet the needs of the service.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with PHS.
