NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

NHS Grampian is an intelligence-led organisation known for drawing on high quality analytics to inform public health, planning, performance and improvement.  We are looking for experienced, enthusiastic and forward-thinking individuals to join our innovative and friendly team.

In an era of rapidly advancing technology and increasing data volume and sources, NHS Grampian recognises the immense potential of harnessing data to drive innovation, improve patient care, and shape the future of healthcare. It is our commitment to build a proficient Health Intelligence team to ensure NHS Grampian maximises data as a strategic asset, whilst empowering healthcare professionals, researchers, and policymakers with actionable insights to transform healthcare delivery, reduce health inequalities, and enhance patient outcomes. Our approach is to use data strategically to help our teams to focus on patient-centric and collaborative methodologies, and to support a data-driven ecosystem that fosters innovation. At the heart of innovation we must continue to ensure patient privacy and security, whilst delivering evidence-based decision-making.

As we embrace emerging technologies like Cloud Data Lakes, Predictive Analytic Models, AI and Machine Learning, we need to continue to focus on data security, privacy, and governance while promoting cross-departmental collaboration towards innovation. As Public Health continues to change, healthcare data will remain one of the critical assets of the industry and, as such, must be handled with care and transparency to realise its full potential.

The postholder will support the development and execution of a comprehensive cloud-based data architecture transformation, encompassing data storage, data integration, data processing, and data analytics, leveraging modern cloud technologies. The postholder will contribute to the strategic design and development of new data and intelligence systems’ architecture and processes across the health system in Grampian. In collaboration with partners, the postholder will design and support the implementation of data integration plans to extend coverage of intelligence across the whole health and care system.  This will include secondary care, primary care, child health, mental health and Local Authorities.

The postholder will be highly skilled in: data architecture, information extraction and manipulation of large datasets; information interpretation and data visualisation skills.  The role offers the opportunity to work with a broad range of stakeholders such as Public Health consultants, acute sector colleagues and local authorities, along with other health boards and national health bodies.

The postholder will assess the needs of data and information users, and influence system architecture and information strategies. They will develop strong links with teams across the system to understand operational needs and provide tailored solutions to meet the information needs of the organisation.

The team has built an outstandingly positive reputation and we are much in demand, so the ability to lead under pressure is important.  In return we can offer flexible and hybrid working arrangements with opportunities for development and progression.  Continuous professional development and research are important to us and we provide the opportunity to develop academic links with the University of Aberdeen and the Aberdeen Centre for Health Data Science.

The successful candidate will be adaptable and able to switch on occasion to hands-on programming or development work.  Therefore, suitable candidates will have technical expertise in data services, data preparation, Cloud based architecture, ETL & MS SQL studio.

Interviews will be held in early October 2023.
