The Stroke Service of Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy in NHS Fife is looking for an enthusiastic, passionate and dedicated clinical nurse specialist to join its Stroke team providing specialist treatment and care for patients immediately following a stroke.  The pathway starts in A&E where the clinical nurse specialist for stroke provides thrombolysis and thrombectomy assessment in tandem with the Stroke Consultant and A&E team, to deliver an excellent standard of stroke care.
The Stroke Clinical Nurse Specialist will assess patients in the medical admissions unit and other acute wards to support the Acute Stroke Team.  This ensures those who require it, receive a prompt triage to Stroke Unit for the staff to deliver immediate hyper acute care for the first 72 hours post stroke.
The clinical nurse specialists are actively involved in supporting patients and families on the ward coming to terms with the diagnosis of stroke.  This can also be delivered in the outpatient setting for patients who went home via Early Supported Discharge.
Our clinical specialist nurses will support the stroke unit nursing teams to deliver expert care, provide training within the stroke unit and other areas and to support the role of the CHSS Stroke Educator.

Main duties of the job
Your role is to facilitate and co-ordinate nursing care during the acute admission pathway for stroke patients. You will liaise, plan and implement initial acute care in collaboration with the relevant senior Stroke Clinician.
You will be expected to hold the Acute Stroke phone and provide a prompt level of advanced and comprehensive nursing assessment based on specialist knowledge and experience.
Through participating in the development of acute & rehabilitation stroke nursing within the Trust you will be contributing to the implementation of the Scottish Stroke Improvement Plan and on delivering the new National Clinical Guideline for Stroke, UK & Ireland.  By your leadership you will encourage others to be innovative & adaptable in their approach to striving for clinical excellence.
You will work within the stroke unit to provide specialist nursing assessment, implementation and evaluation of care, which may include symptom control, discharge planning and home care support. This will include working within a team of nurse specialists and as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing a coordinated approach to the service.
