We are a looking for a Head of Public Health Intelligence to lead our team within the Department of Public Health and Health Policy at NHS Lothian.  This is a permanent, full-time position based at our main office at Waverley Gate in central Edinburgh. This senior role requires someone who can take responsibility for developing and leading a public health intelligence work programme. We are seeking to appoint someone with significant experience and comprehensive specialist knowledge and understanding of public health intelligence systems and processes as well as an understanding of public health policy and health inequalities. This is an opportunity for a candidate with proven health intelligence expertise and leadership and management skills who wants to take on a senior public health role. 


The intelligence function spans the work of our public health Directorate as well as informing a range of work with partner agencies. This team is integral to the daily functioning of one of Scotland’s largest territorial Public Health departments.  There will be daily contact with Public Health Consultants, other senior NHS leaders and key contacts beyond NHS Lothian. The role also entails leadership of a team of intelligence analysts including management of senior intelligence analysts. The post-holder will also be a member of the department’s senior management team and contribute to the development of public health policies and priorities in Lothian.

The Department of Public Health and Health Policy aims to improve and protect the health of people in Lothian as part of a whole system approach to public health in Scotland. The department is organised around the areas of Population Health, Health Care Public Health and Health Protection. The post-holder will work within the Population Health Division reporting to the Lead Consultant for Population Health.
