IP Network Engineer

The Post:
NHS National Services Scotland’s Digital and Security (DAS) Strategic Business Unit (SBU) manages and delivers IM&T services, systems, data and contracts which enable cross–agency, cross-board / boundary integration, workflow, information sharing, cost efficiency realization and collaboration.
The position of IP Network Engineer has arisen within the National Infrastructure Team of NSS to provide technical expertise to a variety of NHS projects on the Scottish WAN (SWAN) contract.
The IP Network Engineer will primarily support the Optometry, Dental and Pharmacy community’s as they transition from the SWAN to the SWAN2 networks. This will involve scoping and planning of migration activities and working with suppliers to ensure delivery of appropriate network services, and helping to troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve connectivity issues as they arise. Opportunities will be available to work on a range of other tasks, including network monitoring, network security, cloud networking, SD-WAN and IP Address Management.
The Candidate:
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring reliable connectivity into the SWAN network from Dental, Optometry and Pharmacy sites, and will liaise with service management colleagues and contractor organisations to resolve issues as they arise.
The position requires evidence of excellent personal organisation and communication skills, with a methodical approach to troubleshooting. The postholder must be customer focussed.
The postholder will have knowledge of or the ability to acquire knowledge of:
- IP networking technologies (including IP addressing, DHCP and VPNs)
- Microsoft Windows
- IT Security concepts and best practice
- Public Sector environment
The postholder will report to a senior telecoms manager within National Infrastructure and must possess a passion and enthusiasm to progress their career in a demanding, but exciting, ever changing Shared Services landscape. The postholder will be expected to work and integrate with a broad range of stakeholders from across the Public Sector and 3rd party suppliers.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
