NHS HIGHLAND

CLINICAL RESEARCH FELLOW

COMMENCING AUGUST 2023

FOR A PERIOD OF 12 MONTHS

SALARY SCALE: £38,051 - £55,073 (pro rata)

This is a unique opportunity to undertake original research and be based in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Applications are invited from doctors in training with an interest in pursuing a clinical academic career who wish to undertake a period of dedicated full time research to allow them to develop their academic experience and facilitate progress towards higher post-graduate degrees.

The NHS Highland Research Development and Innovation Division is a corporate level department serving a catchment area of almost 10,000 square miles covering the entire Scottish Highlands and Argyll & Bute with a total population of over 330000. The Division supports clinical research in all specialisms (around 130 – 150 studies recruiting and in follow-up), and is focused in a purpose built Clinical Research Facility that has four treatment rooms, blood prep area and freezer room, and delivers drug and device trials, as well as other clinical studies. We deliver a mixture of Phase 2, 3 and 4 studies of both commercial and academic funding types.

This new post would predominantly support the development of projects requiring complex data analytics as applied to clinical datasets to inform improvements in our understanding of human disease and to improve our service delivery models. A main disease focus is in the area on cancer diagnostics but other interests could be developed. Other aspects of the post include a willingness to develop new ideas and innovations for a variety of research and service redesign aspects.

There is a team of clinical research nurses, data managers, clinical administrative support as well as a co-located governance and admin team, and a dedicated research pharmacy.

Informal enquiries would be welcomed by Dr Beth Sage, Director of Research Development and Innovation at beth.sage@nhs.scot
