The Western General Hospital (WGH) is a large teaching hospital with an established reputation for offering the best practice across a wide variety of specialist services. It is also home to the Edinburgh Cancer Centre (ECC), which is a leading centre for cancer services provision. We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced pharmacy technician to join our pharmacy dispensary team. You will be part of the management team within ECC, leading a team of core and rotational pharmacy technical staff. We invite applicants with post qualification knowledge and experience of dispensing services, and training and supervision of others, to join the team delivering systemic anticancer therapy. This is an exciting time to join our team of friendly pharmacy staff who are committed to service modernisation and developing the role of pharmacy technicians and pharmacy support staff. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic leader who demonstrates a high level of professional practice and technical reasoning to implement local, regional and national strategies and work collaboratively with the wider pharmacy team and relevant teams in cancer services. This post holder will also be involved in homecare medicines service and developing novel models for SACT delivery within outpatient services. 

You must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council and have a recognised qualification at HNC level in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent, have a final accuracy checking technician qualification and will need to gain a work-based assessor qualification within 24 months of appointment (if not already in place).

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.  ​​​​​​​
