Here in the Acute Assessment Unit/Medical Assessment Unit/Ward 5, we have permanent opportunities for enthusiastic and motivated Staff Nurses to join our multidisciplinary team. We are looking for Nurses who are committed to providing the highest level of quality and safe care to a wide range of adult patients in a very busy, fast paced and challenging area – this is an excellent opportunity for you to develop excellent clinical skills in acute medicine. We welcome applications from student nurses due to register later in 2023 (please state on application expected date of completion)

We are the first point of entry for medical patients admitted from the emergency department or directly from Borders Urgent Care Centre. You will also work closely with colleagues in the Emergency Department and specialist teams both within the hospital and in the community to ensure that we provide the right care, at the right time. The department is comprised of 30 beds with 7 surge beds.

You will be supported to maintain your professional development through our Clinical and Professional Development department. You will be a passionate, patient focused and conscientious nurse who works well under pressure. You should be able to problem solve and provide gold star nursing admission documentation to support patient care. Excellent organisational and communication skills are essential to working in this unit along with being able to work independently and flexibly.

You will play a vital role in supporting the Senior Charge Nurses, Charge Nurses and other Registered Band 5 nurses as well as being jointly responsible for overseeing the work of the Health Care Support Workers on the ward. The post holder will be required to undertake Exposure Prone Procedures (EPP).
