Job Advert

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

This is an exciting time to join the Orthoptic Service who have relocated to the new National Treatment Centre – Highland based on the Inverness Campus along with the rest of the Ophthalmology Service, delivering state of the art ophthalmic services.

In additional to this post, the Orthoptic Team consists of 2.6 WTE Advanced Specialist Orthoptists, 4.2 WTE Specialist Orthoptists (which regularly includes new graduate orthoptists on band 5/6) and 3.4 WTE Orthoptic and Child Health Screening Assistants.

As the Head of the Orthoptic Service you will be responsible for leading all aspects of orthoptic service management and delivery in NHS Highland, Western Isles and Orkney ensuring the standards, delivery and development of Orthoptic Services meet the needs of its people and communities.

To apply you should have significant post graduate experience in the NHS and have membership of the professional body and registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council.  You should have the strategic ability to promote awareness of the changing roles and responsibilities of the service to all stakeholders and demonstrate highly developed negotiating and influencing skills.

As well as being a member of the National Treatment Centre – Highland Leadership Team you will achieve a professional infrastructure which supports the operational needs of the service, balancing competing demands of professional leadership, clinical caseload and operational management responsibilities.

The National Treatment Centre – Highland opened it’s doors to patients in April 2023 and therefore there is significant opportunity to develop the role to meet the changing needs of the service to meet the Scottish Governments delivery plan for the National Treatment Centres across Scotland.
