To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.

Do you enjoy a fast pace of working?  Being part of a large and supportive multidisciplinary team? Interested in the application of principles of Home First and Realistic Medicine in practice? If so, we are seeking enthusiastic candidates who are currently in a Band 5 post and wish to develop their career and with those already in a Band 6 post.

The Emergency Department at the RIE is one of the busiest in Scotland.  It is a fast paced and dynamic environment which will afford the opportunity to build on existing clinical skill and develop advanced clinical reasoning skills. The post holder will be required to work autonomously, have the ability to conduct rapid risk assessment, problem solve and think on their feet.

The patient group is diverse and mixed in age. They include those presenting with medical and orthopaedic conditions, trauma and other social considerations.   The team work closely with community-based agencies across 4 Health & Social Care partnerships to prevent hospital admission, as well as ED and inpatient teams on the RIE site for those who require admission.

The OT team is currently made up of 3 full time Band 6 OTs working a 12 hour rota shift pattern (0800-2000) over 7 days, and a full time Band 7 Advanced Practice OT Mon-Fri 0800-1600.  There is ongoing development work around the operational aspects of the service and scope to participate in further future service development.

Applicants should have:

  • Excellent communication, time management and prioritisation skills.
  • A high standard of Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention skills.
  • Clinical experience working as an Occupational Therapist within an adult acute or rehabilitation setting.

In return we offer formal supervision, development opportunities and peer support from an experienced and friendly team. There are strong network links to the hospital via bus services and we have a free NHS shuttle bus to an easily accessible free park and ride car park.
