The obstetric operating team within Aberdeen Maternity Hospital have an exciting opportunity for an experienced theatre practitioner, with a proven interest in education, to join them as their new Clinical Educator.

The role will be predominantly based within Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, but there is an expectation that 1 day per week will be spent with the practice education team within the Regional Theatre Academy.

AMH theatres form part of the Women and Children’s division of NHS Grampian Acute sector, which falls under the Integrated Family Portfolio and as such, this post will ultimately involve preparing the large team for the expansion of services and relocation to the Baird Family Hospital.  The groundwork has been laid for this piece of work, but, in order to be implemented, we require a Clinical Educator with the drive and ambition to deliver the high standards of education alongside the Regional Theatre Academy.  This will involve the coordination of rotational placements for all team members across all included specialties

This is an opportunity for someone with the ambition and vision to make a real difference to a large team of professionals within a busy, pressurised and unpredictable environment.  The successful candidate will use their initiative to develop and progress the educational needs of a diverse team and coordinate the allocation of students within the obstetric theatre environment.

The successful candidate must be ready to learn, teach, progress, liaise and be willing to spearhead change. This is a role that requires confidence with a desire to streamline the induction to department process and the educational requirements of the whole team.

What do we need from you?

  • Be educated BSc level or willing to undertake this level of study to fall in line with national standards.
  • A post graduate education based qualification, or be willing to undertake one.
  • Have experience of delivering education in a peri-operative setting, with an interest in developing an initially obstetric education provision and coordinating its delivery.
  • Develop and deliver induction courses for all new starts and ensure these are completed in a timely, supported manner.
  • Act as the liaison for university and in house training delivery, for student nurses and ODPs.  Allocating appropriate mentors and coordinating the educational needs of each student.
  • Have lots of ideas about educational support and delivery in a large team, enthusiasm and be ready to work with the dynamic team in the Regional Theatre Academy.
  • Be ready to expand your skill set to include the Breast and Gynaecological surgical specialties once the move to the Baird Family Hospital has been completed if not possessed already.
  • Enjoy the idea of working in one of the most dynamic and challenging environments available.
  • Have the confidence to work towards and make improvements to a large team of individuals comprising all levels of needs, from students to senior staff with 35+ years of experience.
  • Work predominately Monday – Friday but be prepared to be flexible as the demands of the service dictate and educational needs are identified.

An attractive relocation allowance of up to £8,000 is available to successful candidates.
