Who We Are

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is the national Health Board with statutory responsibilities to effect sustainable change through workforce development, education and training across the health and social care system in Scotland, while working at UK level with partner organisations. Within NES, the Scotland Deanery (as part of the Medical Directorate) oversees medical education in Scotland.

Do you want to make difference to the training of medical clinical academics in Scotland? Are you interested in championing the development of flexible and innovative career pathways in teaching scholarship and research-intensive academic practice that will deliver the workforce needed for the future?

A senior doctor currently (or until recently) working in the NHS and/or from a clinical academic background is needed for the role of Associate Postgraduate Dean for Academic Training Development. This new role will lead a strategic review of the Scotland Deanery’s activity in academic training. The post holder(s) will work closely with Medical Schools, Research and Education bodies, Health Boards and other stakeholders across the UK to support the delivery of the medical workforce with the required academic skills to meet the needs of the population of Scotland.

Applicants must be qualified to MBChB or equivalent and have GMC registration. A broad understanding of and interest in clinical academia issues including research-intensive and/or education-intensive career pathways is required.

While the post may be suitable for a single person, there is also an option to be appointed to a research-intensive (2 sessions) or teaching scholarship-intensive (2 sessions) role. Please indicate a preferred option on your application.
