Who We Are

As NHS Scotland's unique provider of a national tele-health and tele-care service, we are responsible for the delivery of health advice and information by telephone and online services to the population of Scotland 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. NHS 24 is a patient-focused service providing the people of Scotland with triage, advice, guidance, referral and information on health and healthcare services

Our Regional Centres are located at Hillington, Cardonald, Clydebank, South Queensferry, Dundee and Aberdeen. This post can be based in any of our any of our West Centres detailed within the job pack.  NHS 24 also supports Hybrid Working.

The Role…..

The Business Manager will play a key part in the growth and development of NHS 24 as it continues its transformational journey.  The role will be part of the Office of the Chief Executive whose remit includes ensuring effective governance of the organisation, delivery of NHS Strategy and plans, workforce development, digital and technological transformation, and external relations. 

This role is to manage the successful delivery of projects and activities to support the effective discharge of programmes overseen or led by the Office of the Chief Executive in conjunction with Executive Management Team/Senior Management Team.  The scope of work covers all areas of business and project delivery within NHS 24 incorporating people, process, technology, and information management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall management and development of services within a portfolio of activity for the Office of the Chief Executive
  • Development of new projects/activities from inception through implementation and realisation of benefits and support the collaboration activity with other NHS boards
  • Work closely with the Chief Executive and Deputy Chief Executive to ensure key projects and activities are planned and delivered on time and to budget
  • Lead projects using appropriate project methodologies which includes delivery at a local, organisational or national level, depending on the scope and scale of the project
  • Lead multi-disciplinary project/activity teams drawn from across all Directorates within NHS 24
  • Lead the establishment of the structure and format of projects, engage key stakeholders, at all levels across NHS and externally, through workshops and meetings to drive forward the programmes of work
  • Implement and maintain quality programme and project management standards, reports and processes to identify and manage cross-project dependencies, risks and constraints for strategic projects


The successful applicant will:

  • Educated to degree level or have equivalent experience of project management preferably within the Health Service
  • Previous experience in the management of projects/activities involving internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and best practice with a Prince 2 Practitioner certificate or equivalent is desirable
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Previous experience of providing senior level business management support
  • Experience of analysing, interpreting, and presenting information to consult, negotiate, make decisions, develop solutions and solve complex problems
  • Experience presenting information, reports, and presentations to senior managers, including Executive level
  • Ability to build effective relationships, influence and persuade internal and external stakeholders ​​​​​​​
